This feature is based on how much i like when creators design with type. It's a really interesting concept at it's core. Type exists to communicate verbal language, but what these designers have done is use typesets in a way that pays respect to each letter's individual characteristics and really pushes it's unique artistic value. Whether the letters still make up a word or whether each character is treated as it's own design element, the products seen above show an exciting approach to creating exciting visuals with type!

Etsy Aprons!

I chose aprons as a theme for this shout out to fabulous Etsy sellers as a tribute to finally using my favourite apron! A friend had made it for me last Christmas and I just never wanted to get anything on it. So it stayed folded neatly in a kitchen drawer for over a year just waiting to get splashed with spaghetti sauce or wine stains!

So last weekend as I was getting ready to silkscreen, I didn't really feel like wearing the same old grubby button down shirt that I usually wear to get my art on. I wanted to do some printing in style! I pulled it out of the drawer and put it on! Sure I had a hard time wiping my inky hands on it at first. But now it has a new home hanging in my studio!

The picture above shows the wide spectrum of aprons that you can find on Etsy. From girly and frilly to bold and modern, to graphic and illustrative to subtle and minimal, there's an apron out there for everyone!

From top left clockwise:
cberrybaby – Ginger Tile Reversible Crayon Apron
reyaveltman – Ekster Apron – Handprinted from Magpie Linocut
prettyditty – Feathered – Full Lola Apron
snappyshop – Bacon and Eggs Pocket
